Not much better than CS5 help August 29, 2010

While this book is profusely illustrated with photographic examples and menu snaps, its explanations are seldom more exhaustive than those found in CS5 help (which can be downloaded in PDF form). Many of the other available CS5 books (e.g., Martin Evening's, would be a better investment.

Difficult to learn August 27, 2010

I am usually pretty good at learning new programs on my own with the help of a manual, but this book just didn't help me.
I've done a lot of work with final cut, and there were so many times I wished I knew how to photoshop. So, I finally decided to get with it.
This book has a lot of information, but I have difficulties concentrating on learning, because the information is presented in a choppy way. It almost works like a dictionary (not alphabetical), in that the chapters are concise and informative.
However, I much rather prefer a book that is project or task oriented. I think it helps one learn better. I found that the information is so segmented, I find it difficult to follow.
I think I will try the missing manual series.

After having this book for over a week, I only know how to use the magic wand and eraser. I really wish I could figure out how to paint. There aren't enough illustrations for a mostly hands-on learning person. I wish I would've previewed this book at the book store first.

I'm learning a lot with this book; it's well-written and very accurate. I just open Photoshop and follow along! Que is a trusted publisher of technical material and they didn't miss the mark with this book. Also, it's very reasonably priced compared to some other CS5 books, which makes it a real winner.
