Product Description ANSEL ADAMS: 400 PHOTOGRAPHS presents the full spectrum Adams' greatest work in a single volume for the first time, offering an entirely new perspective on his monumental career.. The photographs are arranged chronologically into five major periods in order to convey Adams' development as an artist-from his first photographs made in Yosemite and the High Sierra in 1916 to his work in the National Parks in the 1940s up to his last important photographs from the 1960s. An introduction and brief essays on selected images provide information about Adams' life, document the evolution of his technique, and give voice to his artistic vision. Few artists of any era can claim to have produced four hundred images of lasting beauty and significance. It is a testament to Adams' vision and a lifetime of hard work that a book of this scale can be justified. ANSEL ADAMS: 400 PHOTOGRAPHS is a must-have reference and gift book for anyone who appreciates photography and the allure of the natural world.

OUR QUINTESSENTIAL AMERICAN PHOTOGRAPHER !!!!! July 5, 2010 DAVID G. MCHALE IV If you don't already own a book on ANSEL ADAMS work, then this is definitely the one to get! This amazing man's career spanned six decades, and ANSEL ADAMS 400 PHOTOGRAPHS is an outstanding overview of the sacredness this man wanted to capture on film so many would appreciate our wild places. ANSEL'S ability to sense and document light, shadow, and the composition of the subject matter are beyond perfect. Anyone who enjoys nature will love this volume and will treasure the magnificence that resides on our wonderous planet. I always thought of MR. ADAMS as the quintessential American photographer, and you may feel the same way after spending some time with this timeless classic book, as you'll recognize many of the photographs as familiar iconic images imprinted onto our collective American psyche. Two of my favorite ADAMS pics are here; the Oaktree(Snowstorm,Yosemite N.P.,CA,1948), and Moonrise (Hernandez,N.M.,1941). It's all here folks in glorious B&W, as these pictures really are a true thing of beauty and are beyond my vocabulary to even begin to give then any sort of real justice. If photography, art, or nature is your thing - I highly recommend ANSEL ADAM'S 400 PHOTOGRAPHS to you. This man really is a national trasure, and every household would sincerely benifit from the eternal beauty contained from within these extrodinary pages.
Ansel Adams 400 photographs June 15, 2010 J. Gizinski (Warsaw, Poland) A must have book for every serious photo enthusiast. Selection of the best pictures from Adams collection. Good print quality, however the size of reproductions could be bigger.
A collector's Prize possession April 6, 2010 W. Gravning I own several of Adams books. This book shows lots of his earlier work as well as images that have not been included in his other fine books. Andrea Stillman did a fine job in the selection of work to be included. I'm very happy to have found it and still available for purchase!
Great Value, Great collection March 29, 2010 Tyson (A State of Mind) This book is full of images. 400 images is so many! What a great value. If you are looking for a large collection of Adams work for a good price this is the book.
Excellent collection March 4, 2010 Kameron M. Martin (missouri) I had the opportunity to flip through this book in a book store before I bought it on Amazon.
A few people have stated they dislike the size of the book and would have preferred a more 'standard' size But huge coffee-table books can be awkward or take up the whole table. I think this books size works perfectly for it's purpose and I'd rather have more of Ansel Adams images in one book then go out and buy six or seven books just to have the same photos.
Excellent book!!
