Product Description
Epson is the company at the cutting edge of quality digital photo printing, and their superb equipment makes it possible for everyone to print sparkling photographs at home. With the help of Rob Sheppard, editor of Outdoor Photographer and PCPhoto magazines, amateurs can enter Epson's brave new world with all the latest information. This latest edition of the Epson guide reflects the increasing sophistication of ink jet printing, with its faster speed and better tonal and color reproduction. It helps today's photographers select a model that has the right features, choose from the new options of quality papers and inks, and succeed in creating excellent prints and have fun while doing it. Sheppard passes on valuable knowledge on developing a consistent workflow, sizing and sharpening images properly, making black-and-white and panoramic prints, and much more. To complete the picture: the guide includes gallery sections from well-known photographers who are all Epson spokespeople and users.

4 out of 5 stars You should know this stuff, but unfortunately many seem not to   May 14, 2010
JackOfMostTrades (Washington, DC)
This is a well-written, clearly written book with appropriate illustrations and explanations about using Epson printers. However, I found that in the two years I've used an Epson photo printer that I knew everything that the author recommended or explained...well, nearly everything. What surprises me is that people who might invest $500 to $1,000 in a digital SLR, and perhaps $500 in a good epson printer would not study their gear carefully, and seek information on the net, via computer clubs, photography clubs, etc.

It seemed--and maybe he is correct--that the author assumed a lot of people with expensive equipment don't invest the time to understand how to use it properly. If that is the case, this book serves a good function. However, issues regarding proper paper profiles, cleaning your computer, the various papers available, etc., should be understood soon after or before one invests in expensive equipment. Perhaps some people have a lot of discretionary income so they perceive their digital photography equipment as 'toys', but a serious photographer (I'd hope) would study all he/she could so as not to waste money--not only on equipment, but the expensive inks and paper you ultimately invest in.

I did like the author's mention of his personal preferences, i.e., don't judge the 'rough draft' of a photo by a monitor 'soft proof,' but rather print a hard copy out. And some suggestions on paper size. Nonetheless, if you do have Epson photo printers and are going to just experiment with it or them, get this book. It will save you a lot of time and headaches. Happily, the author doesn't impose a 'philosophy' of photography into his discussion. It's basically important info, explained clearly. As Martha Graham said, 'Mastery of technique is the first step to creativity." This book can serve that purpose.

5 out of 5 stars Love this book.   October 19, 2009

I have purchased many books on how to take a good digital photograph and have always been frustrated by the quality of the final printed photograph. ( I have even purchased different printers in an attempt to get the quality I want.) I have tried to find information on the process of connecting photoshop very tightly with the printer. This book has done that for me. I can now print a very good photograph. The information found in this book is not readily available even online. I will say that if you truly want to print a good photograph buy this book. It has definitely made my photography experience better, way better.

5 out of 5 stars Finally, a guide to Epson printing   May 30, 2009

So many books on cameras, so few on digital printing, and even fewer devoted to the marvelous Epson printer line. This book is the perfect combination of technical detail and easy to use instructions. It will help anyone get more from their Epson. If you want to know how your printer works and how to optimize your output, you need this book.

This book has been very helpful as I learn to print digital images. Author does not skip details. I have researched many books to learn more about the printing process. This one is the best for my needs.
