Editorial Reviews:

Product Description

Posing can be challenging for even seasoned portrait photographers. There are so many areas of the subject's body that must be finessed —whether simply to best present an attractive feature or to mask a problem area—that configuring a pose that suits the client, the mood of the portrait, the composition, and the reason behind having the portrait made can prove to be quite difficult. This book provides five hundred images from the industry's most heralded photographers, presenting you with a visual reference that you can consult prior to each portrait session to find a suitable pose. You can also review the collection of portraits with a client to gauge their interest in particular posing styles. Because this book is organized into posing categories(e.g., head and shoulders, waist up, three-quarter, and full length), photographers can easily zero in on a posing style that suits the subject and the portrait concept. This visual reference book features poses from twenty photographers, including Jeff Smith, Jeff and Julia Woods, Tim Schooler, Marc Weisberg, Tim Kelly, and other top pros.

FEATURES:
  • Five hundred figure-flattering poses, including standing, sitting, and reclining poses
  • Head-and-shoulders, waist-up, three-quarter, and full-length poses
  • Stunning indoor and outdoor images from twenty of the industry's best photographers
  • A strategically organized design that allows photographers to find a category of pose and review similar poses serially, without needing to leaf through countless pages
  • An appendix featuring a crash course on posing basics, allowing even beginning photographers to understand posing theory in order to better replicate or adapt a pictured pose

3 out of 5 stars OK As Far As it Goes   September 6, 2010
Richard W. Middaugh (Vista, California)
An OK guide for posing younger women, but lacks posing guides for photographing older and mature women.

2 out of 5 stars 500 photos   August 25, 2010
G. Rosset (Oslo, Norway)
This book contains 500 portraits with no info. Spend your time browsing the portrait gallery at [...] instead.
That being said the portraits are mostly well executed, and they are categorized in the TOC, so if you like looking at photos, and don't mind paying for it ...

4 out of 5 stars Excellent   August 13, 2010
Ryan
This is a great book and it gives someone good insite on posing models in urban photography.

5 out of 5 stars Great Visual Guider   July 2, 2010
Anna
I bought this book as a guide to posing, to help me with more ideas. It served the purpose, I am really satisfied with the book and I would recommended to fellow photographers.

5 out of 5 stars Pictures only - that's all I need from this book   June 6, 2010
Lake (Silicon Valley, CA)
500 examples are a lot in one book. If you are like me, only browse the picture part by ignoring the text section of photograph books, this is the right choice for you.

Reading this book is about getting ideas of posing, not a "how-to" in lighting, etc. Know what you want first and find the right book for you otherwise you end up in the wrong place and giving the unfair review to a book like this.

Actually the two pages of text portion at the end of this book are concise and very helpful. It's not how much the writing is, it's about the quality of the content.
