5 out of 5 stars Nikon D300 for Dummies   September 6, 2010
Joan
The book Nikon D3000 for Dummies is an excellent book. The author goes through every step of all settings available on the camera and gives her recommendations for many of them. I have learned to make many adjustments to the camera settings and to become a better photographer thanks to this book.

5 out of 5 stars Knowledge and Facts Ilustrated   August 22, 2010

Only a few things to say/state! Julie didn't have to go to Wiley to have printed, perhaps other. Regardless of publishers, she is very exact with this particular camera; Nikon D3000 and perhaps with a few others. I made the right choice of books, not those that write of "generalities", but a book geared for what you purchased. The booklet that came with camera, only specifies a minimal on the useage. Julie's presentation explains the outside, inside and how to specifically use your camera in all aspects; lighting, distant, close-ups etc. and how to make a photo look its' best! As a writer, she is very explicit! Highly recommend ANY of her books on SLR cameras.

3 out of 5 stars An Informative Book though very complicated for Beginners   August 18, 2010

My Nikon D3000 is my very first experience with the DSLR cameras and although the Guide Menu that came with the Camera itself is really useful, it's unfortunately not enough to cover all the great things this camera can do. If you want to take some professional pictures, you need to understand about the modes of this camera more than just the Auto mode or when to use the flash and when not to. This Book explains every single option in great detail and therefore it is very explanatory for those who wants to take advantage of every little feature that this camera can do.

After all I found this to be a quite informative book. It has a lot of informations about the camera and about its different moods. Example (Shutter speed, color adjustments, Focus etc..) A person can really know a lot about the features of this camera while reading the book. However since English is only my second language and since I had NO experience whatsoever with DSLR cameras and haven't done any photo-shoots professionally before, I found a lot of un-explained vocabularies that I had absolutely NO idea what it meant. I also took the advice of this book about certain sittings but unfortunately didn't get the result I was hoping for. But that's just because I probably didn't try it on the right subjects or maybe because I misused it.

I think I was in such a hurry since I ordered this book just 2 months after I purchased the camera. Maybe if I came to read it again now that I know more about DSLR cameras than I did back then, I can probably understand it better and have a greater use of it.

Regardless it was a good book, very informative, very direct but as I said I think its more suitable for the advanced owners of the DSLR cameras.

5 out of 5 stars Helped Me Get Right Into Photography   July 13, 2010
D. Cannon (USA)
Rather than just thinking on the scale of the D3000, think of this book as a basic intro to photography book where everyone is following along using the same camera.

I recently bought to a D3000 as a start to a new hobby, and I knew very little about photography overall. After reading this book I now know the basics of aperture, shutter speed, ISO, flash settings, how to achieve certain effects in photos, the difference in prime and telephoto lenses, and more.

Using this book I feel like I was able to start getting much higher quality photos much more quickly than if I went about learning it on my own or using a general introduction book.

Definitely recommend.

5 out of 5 stars Just what I needed!   June 20, 2010
