Product Description For those who want to make the transition into the world of vocational photography-staying true to your craft and vision, while fusing that craft with commerce VisionMongers is a great place to begin your journey. With a voice equally realistic and encouraging, photographer David duChemin discusses the experiences he's had, the lessons he's learned and the practices he's adopted in his own winding journey to becoming a successful working photographer. When it comes to this personal, honest combination of craft and commerce, there is no single path to success. Everyone's goals are different, as is everyone's definition of success. As such, VisionMongers does not prescribe a one size-fits-all program. Instead, duChemin candidly shares ideas, wisdom and inspiration to introduce you to and help you navigate, the many aspects of transforming your passion into your vocation. He addresses everything from the anxiety-riddled question "Am I good enough?" to the basics-and beyond-of marketing, business and finance, as well as the core assumption that your product is great and your craft is always improving.Along the way, duChemin features the stories of nine other photographers-including Chase Jarvis, Gavin Gough and Zack Arias-whose paths, while unique, have all shared a commitment and passion for bringing their own vision to market. With VisionMongers, you'll learn what paths have been taken-what has worked for these photographers-and you'll

A must-have for all Photographers August 15, 2010 SomePrettyThings This book made me excited not only about photography, but about running a photography business. Most business books I've read suck the creativity out of the reader. David's book allowed me to see that crafting my business practices is just another way to be creative. Visionmongers tells you in no uncertain terms that running a photography business is hard, dirty and tiring and yet makes you want to run out and get started anyway!
Ok, but not outstanding August 11, 2010 Matt Hildebrandt (VA Beach, elevation -4 feet [really!!!]) Some decent insights, extremely good on setting realistic expectations about photography as a vocation. But I agree w/ another reviewer who wrote that sometimes the text gets a little long on the inspirational, flowery poetic stuff.
The book would have been better with more specific marketing tips, suggestions on building a website, etc.
AWESOME!!! July 26, 2010 Sarah Hostetler (DC) This book was great! lots of information from business cards to stock photography! I have almost every page doggy-eared and highlighted. I HIGHYL recommend this book!
Interesting read but not perfect July 5, 2010 Mediahound (SF Bay Area, CA United States) 2 out of 5 found this review helpful
This is an interesting read however I cannot give it a perfect rating because this book is a bit too expensive and the author tends to ramble on and on. This book reads almost as if the author was trying to fill up a certain amount of words or something like that. Reading it reminded me of talking to the type of person who will talk your ear off.
A must have June 30, 2010 KJ in Aus This book is worth every (minimal) penny. duChemin is obviously experienced and successful within the photography industry and has many useful insights and opinions to share that - particularly for those in the early stages of the their photography career - prove invaluable. Having said that, this book is riddled with pearls of wisdom that even the experience professional should be able to take and adapt for and into their own career/business. duChemin's pragmatic and realistic approach is refreshing and I will be re-reading this book many times throughout my own career. Highly recommended.
