Tremendously valuable resource July 29, 2010 The Jackal (USA) As the author, John Harrington, writes in the book, most colleges and photography schools spend precious little time (if any at all) teaching students about the business side of photography. As it turns out, running a successful photography business requires much more than just the ability to take good pictures. Setting prices, negotiating contracts, managing employees, licensing, balancing work and family, etc. - it all plays a role, and this book helps you do it. It's absolutely packed with useful information and advice. Anyone serious about having stable, long-term success in the photography industry should consider owning this book. It has opened my eyes to aspects of the business that I either would not have thought of on my own, or learned the hard way through regrettable errors.
The bottom line is, photography is a life-long journey, and to make a living at it requires skill, talent, supportive family and friends, and a good mind for business. Use schooling and practice to develop your skill, find ways to inspire and focus your talent, thank and love your family and friends...and use this book to help hone your business.
Must have book for photographers! July 8, 2010 Bookworm777 (Washington) This is definitely a must have for pros and those looking to go pro...or anyone looking to get paid for their photographs in some capacity.
This book is full of necessary information and has caused me to increase my prices within the first day of reading it. And I came into a situation where knowledge from reading this book saved me from a bad business decision. Definitely paid for itself within the first week of owning it!
Great resource! July 7, 2010 fatbustermack I'm slowly working my way through this book but as an aspiring self-employed photographer it has been invaluable help with getting me on the right track with pricing, contracts and overall client relations. I highly recommend this to anyone looking to break out on their own!
Comprehensive, well written book June 27, 2010 dvd (NJ USA) A very comprehensive (if not a bit too comprehensive in some areas) and well written book. Although Mr Harrington prefaces the book by stating it is written for the established professional photographer -- in my opinion, anyone even considering going pro should read this book first. It gave me a much better idea of the legal pitfalls of this profession that I was not originally aware of, which will allow me to put processes in place even before my website is up, in order to avoid potential future problems.
Can't read on Kindle app on iPhone or iPad??? May 26, 2010 R. Thayer 3 out of 13 found this review helpful
I would love to buy this book and read it within my Kindle app on the ipad and iPhone. I looks like that is not an option and it can only be viewed on the specific Kindle device.
Show me how I can give you money.
